Memorable Quotes from Classic Movies

My boyfriend and I were talking about which movie to stream to our television via Netflix using our Roku Streaming Player. He likes great quotes from movies, and he began telling me some of his favorites.

Here are some snippets of dialogue and quotes that he likes. As a classic movie fan, there are many more he could cite. These are ones that immediately came to mind — I might add another Hub with more quotes later. All quotes can be found on IMDB.com. Enjoy.

(Please note that a couple of quotes contain mild risqué words or profanity. Please don't flag these quotes, as I have already received approval from HubPages to publish them. The words are used in context from movies, and not as flippant expletives.)

There are several good quotes here, but if I have to choose a favorite, the one from "Annie Hall" brings back good memories.

Kid: I killed him real good....I guess he had it coming though.

Clint: Kid, we all have it coming.

Favorites that you listed....badges from Treasure of Sierre Madre and fighting in the war room in Dr. Strangelove. Voted up and interesting....I really enjoyed reading this hub.

Jurassic Park were my favorites from your collection! I've seen that movie so many times and could never get tired of it!

For Clint Eastwood I'd have to add "Right turn, Clyde!"

Nice collection. My all time favourite comes from Gone with the Wind; it is Scarlett's: "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow." That's a classic!

Oh Lord, this was a trip down memory lane-- Dr. Strangelove is still one of my alltime favorite films. Thanks for this great round up

It's ironic about our favourite movie quotes. We have them memorized not only in literal words but also where they are, what happened just before, and what happened just after. My favourites from your list are for serious films, Sunset Blvd, and from comedies, Dr. Strangelove. Classic Hollywood rules in my home!

Princessa,

Thanks for reading, and commenting in, another of my Hubs.

Scarlett's quote is a classic...if she puts off thinking about it until tomorrow, will the craziness level change? Will she not go crazy?

robie2,

Thanks for commenting. Do you think, even 10 years from now, we're going to remember quotes from the movies being released today?

Flora,

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your incite.

I was driving through a part of the greater Los Angeles area a few years ago, in a neighborhood I had not been before. The road was more like a tree-lined country lane than a busy street. I glanced over to my right, at a home on a narrow, pointed street corner, and what did I see?...The house that was used for the exterior shots in Sunset Boulevard.

:-) It does change actually. I've tried it myself and things are always clearer the day after "After all, tomorrow is another day."

Princessa,

"By George, I think she's got it!"

It's 5:50am Pacific, and that's all I could think of.

Sannel,

Thanks for commenting in another of my articles. Thanks, too, for sharing my Hub. There were so many great movie quotes I could have included...I think I'm going to have to compile a "part 2" collection and publish another Hub.

Marcy,

Thanks for your comments. Don't you think there were more great quotes to be found in the *older* movies than in some of the more current ones?

Daisy Mariposa profile image

JKenny,

It's nice to "see" you again. Thanks for commenting. What I especially like about reading the classic movie quotes is that just by seeing the words in print, visions of the movie scenes come alive again in one's mind.

Great hub, I love old movies and new ones too. Some of my favourite dialogue is from 'Pulp Fiction', just an amazing script.

Julie,

Thanks for reading and commenting in another of my Hubs.

The problem with writing articles like this is that they take a long time to complete...I spend hours watching movie clips rather than doing any writing.

Jools99 profile image

Jools99 Level 7 Commenter 2 weeks ago

Yes, when I do my TV hubs, I spend hours looking at clips on You Tube and I end up terribly sidetracked, going from one to another and then thinking "Ooh, I haven't seen that one for ages, I wonder if they've got ...." so I sympathise with you - but at least we're enjoying putting the hubs together :o), you could make a series of hubs for quotes...romantic quotes, funny quotes, worst quotes, horror quotes, superhero quotes, etc, etc, it's a fun subject.
