Hi daisy...

This was a fun quiz. I thought I would know more than I did. I didn't...I finished with a 7!

Thanks,

I'm glad you enjoyed the quiz, Thomas. I decided to write what was, for me, a different type of article. We have several Civil War books in our house, so I had alot of reference material to use.

I really like question no. 12. Don't you think Ellen Marcy could have started another war?

Thanks for stopping by. You're always welcome to visit my Hubs, as you know. Thanks, also, for suggesting I check out your friends' Hubs. Will has commented in one of my other Hubs, and Dexter is a Facebook friend of mine. I haven't met your other friends yet.

And, thanks for posting a link on your Facebook wall. It is very much appreciated.

Alastar,

One of Colin's favorite PBS series is Ken Burns' Civil War. So, he probably knows a lot about the subject. But, he is a Canadian, so maybe we should give him a handicap.

...it's funny about that because as a kid growing up I knew more about your country than you probably did of ours - quick quiz: who is our prime minister and no you can't use the internet - lol - and what is the capital city of Canada - no internet again? lol

And Obama ? well love him or hate him - for better or for worse I will bet any American here at the Hub that he will get in again for another term - no problem - why?

Because the Republicans have failed , thus far, to come up with a young dynamic candidate .....

Kelly,

Since I grew up in New Jersey, I actually know more about the Revolutionary War than I do about the Civil War. We have two copies of Battle Cry of Freedom in our house, one paperback and one electronic. My boyfriend is continually saying "I have to tell you something interesting I read in the McPherson book." His being a Civil War buff is what got me interested in the subject.

Golly, so far I am the dummy in the group with a 6. I must say I didn't like history in high school or college. Humans are so mean.. lol. I have lived in 7 different states all my life and was mostly raised in Pennsylvania. When I moved to the Carolinas I was told I was a damn yankee because I have stayed. People from the north and the south always try to get me to pick a side.. Yankee or Confederate. The best I can tell people is I am an American.. lol.

I also vote that Epi gets moved to the front of the class.. just for being so sweet!

thejeffriestube profile image

LOL, Tammy, I always pick a side. Since I'm from NJ, I pick the side that WON. Living in Virginia is very interesting for a northerner!

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Daisy Mariposa Hub Author 4 months ago

Colin,

Mathew Brady was the most famous of the Civil War photographers. What I find really interesting is that people used to bring picnics and sit and watch the battles. Have you seen any of those photographs?

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Tammy,

Were you born in the North? I'm not asking you to divulge your age, but...have you lived more years in the North or the South?

Everyone,

It's my quiz, so I make the rules...If you're a Northerner, you receive a one-point handicap.

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Daisy Mariposa Hub Author 4 months ago

Dave,

You're a Northerner, so with one point added, you now have a score of 13...with an asterisk next to it, however.

I am an American Historian, but I did pretty bad on your quiz! I have my accuses, such as that I mostly studied the reasons behind war and the social stuff and I don't really like the actual art of war, but they are just excuses. This was fabulous. Although I wish you would have included some more social aspects to the war ;-) I'm just joking with you, but in all seriousness you really can't fully understand any historical event if you do not understand the social aspects. That is not a criticism of your great quiz, but just a statement on why I study history the way that I do. Fun, entertaining, and very interesting :-)

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Daisy Mariposa Hub Author 4 months ago

Mythicalstorm -

The social aspects too are fascinating: the divide between the aristocratic slave owners and poor southern whites who did the fighting, the northerners who fought for the south and southerners who fought for the north, sons and fathers on opposite sides, brothers on opposite sides, the new york city draft riots by irish immigrants, a few hundred women disguising themselves as men and joining the armies of both sides - it goes on and on.

Hi Daisy! I think that would be a great idea. For example, your hub on bad drivers was so real, yet hilarious - because it is true! To follow up with a fun, educational quiz (like this present one) would certainly keep your readers coming back for more. You can count on me to check them out!

AEvans,

I'm glad you enjoyed the quiz. If you want to do well on my next quiz, you might want to read a U.S. geography book and study a map.

I'm currently writing a U.S. geography quiz. There's one person already bragging that he's going to do extremely well on that quiz, so I'm going to have to come up with some really tough questions.

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Daisy Mariposa Hub Author 4 months ago

Ian,

Thanks for commenting on the formatting of my Hub. I tried using the quiz capsule, which has some very nice features, but it has a limitation for the length of a question. Some of my questions were cut off because they contained too many characters. For that reason, I switched to the text capsule.

Daisy Mariposa profile image

Daisy Mariposa Hub Author 4 months ago

I'm glad you enjoyed the quiz, Ardie. Don't feel bad about your score. A few of the questions were rather obscure.

It took me a while to figure out a good layout for the quiz. I tried using the quiz capsule, but there's a limit to the number of characters a question can have, and some of mine were too long.

Each question is in its own text capsule. The answers are all in one table capsule.
